ANIMATED KIDS’ TALE BRINGS ANGUS TO LIFE
Meet Angus – he’s a bit grumpy and gets a little e-‘moo’-tional. If he’s not hassling the heifers, frowning at the farmer or fuming at the fowls, he’s stomping on innocent daisies.
‘Angus the Irritable Bull’ was Watermark’s debut into interactive storytelling. The project marked the agency’s logical progression in its visual storytelling expertise, leveraging its natural pool of in house talent, while responding to an evolving industry that is constantly challenged to deliver on the market’s increasing digital demands.
Created as a Watermark project and available on iTunes, the story reimagines the well-known folktale of the lion with a thorn in its paw, but in a farm setting for a modern audience. Each page has interactive elements, animation, music and sound, which brings Angus’ experience vividly to life. Users can also customise the app to experience the story differently making this a fun and engaging story aimed at children aged four to six years.
While ‘Angus’ was designed and illustrated as an app from the start, the artwork was painted traditionally in individual pieces giving the end product a beautiful, hand-crafted quality which bridges storytelling old and new. With the narration provided by Helena McAlpine and the audio featuring authentic rural sound, ‘Angus the Irritable Bull’ is a highly creative and successful collaboration delivered by an ace team.
