While most honey labels feature friendly bees and warm yellow hues, you may be surprised to encounter an earthy looking tree man on the label of Streamland’s Manuka Honey ‘n Lion’s Mane Mushroom jar.
Lion’s Mane Mushroom is a white, shaggy mushroom that actually does resemble a lion’s mane. In some parts of the world, the Lion’s Mane Mushroom is said to improve brain function, productivity and overall well-being. A potentially powerful potion when combined with the antibacterial properties of Manuka honey.
Pawel Zawislak was asked to bring his unique style and eye for detail to the product by sketching an organic looking forest man for the label. The concept of the forest man came from agency On Fire, who discovered an historical fable in Asian mythology about an ancient medicine man who created potions from flora and fauna.
Skilled in the art of crafting mythical creatures, Pawel nailed the brief with his first draft. With a tree-trunk face, the forest man’s beard is made up of leaves, flowers, and Lion’s Mane mushrooms. After creating his initial concept digitally to enable quick approval, Pawel sketched the forest man in pencil, which is the perfect medium for creating an earthy aesthetic. It was then scanned into Photoshop for a final edit before being incorporated into the label.
