Australian Bush Babies II

Client: The Perth Mint
Agency: Ogilvy and Mather Australia

The first Australian Bush Babies series of coins and stamps featured five cute and cuddly Australian animals which proved immediately popular with collectors. Following the success of the first series, The Perth Mint commissioned illustrator Elise Martinson to design and illustrate another five coins featuring young Australian fauna.

The coins are Australian currency made from half an ounce of pure silver and are about 37mm in diameter. The full colour illustrations are transferred onto the coin using pad printing technology.

The illustrations were irresistible to Australia Post who later re-imagined them as a series of stamps, releasing the first series in 2011 and the second in 2013.

Elise says she was delighted to be working on the series again.

I always enjoy working on illustrations involving animals and I think my skills had improved since the first series so it was nice to push the texture and detail a bit further. – Elise

The Australian Bush Babies II coin series launched in July 2012 and will conclude with the release of the Wombat coin in July 2013.
